London baby!

Is it bad that I'm already daydreaming about my trip to London this summer? I've been there twice before and I just love it so much. I love the culture, the theatre, the shopping, the strolling, the tea, everything!

I just bought the cutest carry-on bag for the flight from Etsy, I'll post some pics when I get it. I've actually done quite a lot of shopping, I must learn to control myself!

Aaah, July can't come fast enough!

Soup in the summer

Ok, it's not technically summer yet, but the weather here has been so sunny and hot it's hard to tell the difference! Despite that, I decided to make carrot soup for lunch today. I found this recipe from one of my favourite blogs, carrots were sitting in the fridge, so why not?

It really is a great recipe, and I highly recommend it. Pretty easy and quick too. What I did differently was that I let the onions brown a little before adding the carrots, and that I added more herbs: a pinch of pepper, chilli powder, curry and a saffron thread.

I'll be the first to admit that it does look like baby food, I should have left more liquid in it. But, it was indeed yummy! After serving I added some chopped roasted red peppers, drizzled a little olive oil, scattered some croutons and enjoyed it along with a grilled cheese sandwich.

Bliss.

Spring cleaning Pt.1

I am in a decorating mood. Maybe it's because of spring, but I now feel the pressing need to live in a pretty environment. And I decided to start by framing some prints and putting them up.

I bought this print from Emily Martin (theblackapple.etsy.com) last summer, and I finally hung it yesterday! I am the queen of procrastinating. The frame is a cheap one from Ikea (love that place!) but I think they go well together. I love this little bandit!

I have more prints to frame and I'll post some pictures when they're ready. Now, I have to tackle the daunting pile of unread magazines....

Wish me luck!

Eau de Cologne

A friend of my mother recently gave me this cologne as a gift. I really liked the fresh smell, and the wonderfully retro kitsch bottle, which reminded me of some old Versace perfumes (the jeans collection). After some research, (i.e. 5 minutes in wikipedia) I found out that it is indeed a historical cologne. Made in Germany and named after the number assigned to the residence of Wilhelm Mülhens, it has a quite interesting past. You can read more here

I also found out that it used to be considered "miracle water" because of claims that smelling it relieved headaches. Also, due to its high alcohol content violin players used it to clean the strings of their instruments. Hm.

It does smell nice though!

Strawberry Fields Forever

I love this song so much, one of my all-time favourites. And maybe it's because of strawberries.

I always used to know spring was coming when strawberries would make their appearance on the market. I got some yesterday, and they were delicious. Sweet and ripe. Plus, according to Wikipedia, one cup of strawberries has 82mg of vitamin C. Which sounds like a lot, so it's good for you.

On unrelated news, I bought a *sweet* Lomo camera on etsy which puts 3 pictures into one. Can't wait to start playing with it!

First post

Let's start it off with a picture .

I recently started making bottlecap rings. I really enjoy the challenge of creating a mini collage in such a small space. I have tons of ideas, but not many bottlecaps! This one is called "The Princess And The Frog", inspired by the fairy tale.

I love the terrified look on the frog's face.
