The edge of love

Saw The Edge of Love the other night, and although I didn't really like it, it was pure screenshot material. The film was made in 2008, directed by John Maybury, starring Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller, Cillian Murphy and Matthew Rhys. Set in World War II, it's basically the story of the two women, connected by their relationship to Dylan Thomas.

It's not a terrible film but it is pretty boring, albeit stylish and photographed beautifully. The two ladies rock the 40s look which is (surprise!) still very modern today. Chunky knits, florals, red lipstick, cardis and boots. You see, I quickly got bored and started lusting over the clothes and their impeccable faces. The director thought so too and gave us plenty of close-ups.

So, you know, thanks to my mad screenshot-taking skills you don't have to watch it but you can still appreciate the good things about it. And since Dylan Thomas is in the movie, here's one of my favourite poems of his to read.

Love in the Asylum

A stranger has come
To share my room in the house not right in the head,
A girl mad as birds

Bolting the night of the door with her arm her plume.
Strait in the mazed bed
She deludes the heaven-proof house with entering clouds

Yet she deludes with walking the nightmarish room,
At large as the dead,
Or rides the imagined oceans of the male wards.

She has come possessed
Who admits the delusive light through the bouncing wall,
Possessed by the skies

She sleeps in the narrow trough yet she walks the dust
Yet raves at her will
On the madhouse boards worn thin by my walking tears.

And taken by light in her arms at long and dear last
I may without fail
Suffer the first vision that set fire to the stars.

I hadn't heard of it Natalie, but I'm with you on how lovely the frames are! I'm going to have to rent it now... even though you say it's just ok? ♥

Yeah, I watched it yesterday with my mum, and I have to agree. The clothes, make-up, hair and ballrooms were my favourite bits. And I thought the closeness between the two girls wasn't all that obvious, and became forced at the end.
Oh well, sometimes you just have to appreciate that some things can be nothing more than pretty.
