The Sartorial-twist

It's summer, so I have plenty of time in my hands and not enough energy to actually do something even mildly productive. In fact, I've spent a probably unhealthy amount of time refreshing The Sartorialtwist, a random fashion generator made of street style photos of the famous Sartorialist. A head here, a torso there and a pair of random legs and voila, a surreal fashion snapshot. It's all in good fun, and certainly addictive.

Anything to distract me from the sweltering days we're having, really.

DIY LBD

Always wanted to design your very own black dress? Continuum does exactly that, by applying an app that allows you to draw your dress and turn it into a 3D model. The people behind this project are Mary Huang and Jenna Fizel in New York. Their initial idea was for the user to design their dress, have it produced in their own measurements and buy it. Unfortunately, the project failed to reach the funding goal, but the ladies promise to keep trying. Nonetheless, make sure to try it, it's really fun to watch your dress take shape. Watch the video below for more info.

The IOU Project

I got an email by The IOU Project recently, and thought it was a lovely thing to share. Founded by fashion designer Kavita Parmar, their goal is to create unique clothes handmade in Europe using fabrics handwoven from Indian artisans. You can visit their site to watch a pretty little introductory video about their work and join their mailing list.

In their own words:

IOU is a clothing brand that brings together people who celebrate uniqueness, artisanship and design. Each one of our beautiful products is unique and handmade in Europe using fabrics handwoven in India. When you buy one of our items you'll notice that it has a unique id. Using this IOU code, you can see and meet the people involved in making your garment- from the fabric itself to the finished piece. We believe clothes should be made in a way that is responsible towards the environment and respectful of the people involved. We believe in your right to verify authenticity. We believe you'll enjoy meeting other people who think like you.

Isn't it a great idea? Make sure to follow The IOU Project on Facebook and Twitter for more photos and the latest news.

Penelope Tree

Penelope Tree with her big eyes, straight, long hair and skinny figure was an it-girl right up there with Twiggy and Pattie Boyd and an iconic model of the '60s. Or, as John Lennon famously said of her: "Hot, hot, hot, smart, smart, smart!"

She has been a favourite of mine for a long time, and wanted to dedicate a blog post to her. She looks amazing in her photos and although she stays out of the spotlight and rarely gives interviews, she still maintains her fashion status quo and is quite inspiring today.

Paris Style

I first discovered My Street Style when they started following me on twitter, a couple of weeks ago. It's a relatively new street style site, where the photographers roam the streets of Paris capturing the style of the people. I love street fashion, I find it so inspiring and refreshing to see what real people are wearing in their everyday lives, so I was really excited to discover a new site about it, and a french one at that!

The site is both in french and in english, and there's also a section for the lucky ones living in Paris to submit their own picture. Oh, and while we're on the subject of street fashion, make sure to check out Streetgeist, to see what people in Athens are wearing.

(I love this guy!)

ps. This is a scheduled post, so by the time you're reading this I'm probably slapping on sunscreen and refusing to get out of the water, i.e. still on holiday. Excuse me for falling behind on my blog reading-and-commenting! Hope all is well with you. xoxo

Wear a book

Haven't you always wished you could wear your favourite book and show-off your literary savviness? Well, now you can! Out of Print Clothing does exactly that. They sell iconic book covers (some out of print, hence the name) printed on soft, vintage-looking t-shirts. Plus, you can actually feel extra good about your purchase! From their mission statement:

In addition to spreading the joy of reading through our tees, we acknowledge that many parts of the world don't have access to books at all. We are working to change that. For each shirt we sell, one book is donated to a community in need through our partner Books For Africa.

They have both men and women's styles, and the covers include, besides the ones pictured here, such titles as One flew over the cuckoo's nest, Invisible Man, Atlas Shrugged, Naked Lunch and more.

Pretty neat, right? Which one would you choose? It's hard, but I think I'd go with my favourite book, Lolita. Such a great cover!

Until next time, drink lots of fluids.
xoxo

Going Gaga

Oh, Lady Gaga. Everyone and their mother knows her. Do you love her or hate her? I really don't have any strong feelings for or against her but please if somebody could tell me how to get Bad Romance out of my head I'd be eternally grateful. Seriously, this song redefines "catchy". I'm thinking secret mind experiments and subliminal messages are involved.

Ra ra ra ah ah ah.... what was I saying? Oh yes. Fashion plays a huge part in the Gaga universe, especially avant-garde, so-over-the-top-you-can't-even-see-the-top fashion. I'm a fan of this kind of fashion so I have to present to you my newest finds. Behold, the Telephone Bag.

It's a bag. And a telephone. Red patent purse, plus an actual telephone. Did I just blow your mind? You're welcome.

This baby is vintage from the 1970s, in excellent condition. The price tag may be a little steep ($400), but come on, talk about unique. Its not a telephone-shaped bag. It doesn't have the drawing of a telephone on it. It's a bag and a working telephone all rolled into one. You know you want it, and you can find it at misskittylitter .

And if you love Gaga, but you kinda want to be a little bit more discreet about it, I've also got you covered. Behold, the Gaga Brooch.

You have to admit it, it's pretty cute, plus a really accurate portrait! Mmm, I might just get that one for myself. Only $10 at oliviaew .

And if you made it this far, don't forget to enter my giveaway. Still a few days left!

xoxo

Worn

WORN is a fashion magazine unlike the others. Based in Toronto, Canada it comes out twice a year, and discusses fashion, art, photography and different cultures. In their own words:

Since we do not report on trends or promote the newest items on the market, our content is as interesting and relevant today as it will be five years down the road. Although we love and support Toronto fashion, we include content from all over Canada and the rest of the world. WORN hasn’t missed the fact that there are scads of fashion magazines out there. But we feel something is missing: opinion and intelligent commentary that’s untainted by advertisers’ demands. [...]We strive to embody a place between pop culture magazine and academic journal that opens new avenues in art and fashion theory by hovering where these two ideas intersect, connecting with fashion scholars and artists. We pay attention to how what is worn is made, interpreted, transformed, disseminated, and copied.
